Nitish Kumar was born on March 1, 1951. He came into the world in Bakhtiarpur town. This town is in Patna district of Bihar. His father was Kaugil Dev Prasad. He worked as a freedom fighter. Politics 

Nitish entered politics in 1970s. He joined Jayaprakash Narayan's movement. It was against bad government. In 1975, Emergency came. Police put him in jail. He stayed strong there.
